March 2012
National Craft Month-Host a special craft once a week with a guest craft instructor.  Contact your local parks and recreation department or arts council for some volunteers or possibly a paid instructor.


American Diabetes Alert Month-Invite the Health Dept. or local hospital to come and do complimentary blood sugar checks

National Noodle Month- Have a special pasta/spaghetti meal made by client volunteers or staff.  Charge a small fee to donate money for a local or facility cause.

National Peanut Month- Have a peanut themed party or pot luck.  Every dish must have peanuts in it!

Brain Awareness Week, 2nd week- Invite a professor or doctor specializing in neurology at nearby university to present a program the brain.  Examples of topics include:  Brain Longevity Secrets, Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Research, Rejuvenating Your Brain, etc.

Poison Prevention Week, 3rd week- Invite a naturalist or environmentalist to present a program on preventing poisoning, for adults!

American Chocolate Week, 3rd week- Chocolate dessert on the menu (if you provide meals) every day of the week! Do a special chocolate dessert cooking group.

St Patrick's Day, March 17- Party and craft time!
Have a Green Sherbert "Sundae" social.  Serve green sherbert with green sprinkles on top or green sherbert gingerale floats (or punch).  Play Irish music.

Have cookie decorating with green icing and sprinkles.  Or make green sugar cookies in the shape of shamrocks.

Have your participants make all the decorations in advance: 1)Shamrock place mats for the tables 2) Shamrocks for the walls complete with green glitter! 3) Make Kiss Me I'm Irish buttons for participants to wear. 4) Place gold coins on tables.  5) Make centerpieces.

Cancer Control Month-
 Cancer is one of the leading cause of death in the US, second only to heart disease.  Prepare now by inviting a local expert on cancer prevention and treatment to speak to your group.  Check your local cancer center or nearest medical university.

Alcohol Awareness Month

Int'l Guitar Month- Have a guitarist play for your participants.  If your facility serves meals, have the guitarist play during lunch or dinner.


Keep America Beautiful Month- Create or renew a recycling plan for your facility.

Stress Awareness Month- * Have a mental health professional come to present a program on stress and anxiety to identify, treat, and cope with them.


Nat'l Kite Month


Jazz Appreciation Month- Contact local educational institutions with music programs to provide a special jazz music program for your clients.


Nat'l Garden Month- Nat'l Garden (2nd week)- In honor of National Garden Month and Week, have your clients plant some new foliage outside.
